Education as care.
Education is one of the main ways I try to make medicine more useful. I’m interested in patient education, mentoring, teaching, and building tools that help people understand health, healing, and clinical decision-making more clearly.
Projects and teaching work
Jay’s First Cast
I co-authored an illustrated children’s book designed to help young patients understand the healing process after fractures. It brings orthopedic concepts into a format that feels accessible, reassuring, and memorable.
Acres Home Literacy Initiative
I created a pediatric literacy initiative with Harris Health to improve access to books and other educational materials for children and families during well-child visits.
Medical student and engineering mentorship
Through EnMed and related programs, I’ve mentored students on coding, prototyping, project development, personal statements, and navigating the path into medicine and innovation.
Nontraditional
I wrote Nontraditional to highlight the stories of people who came to medicine from other careers and backgrounds. It grew out of a question I heard often: can I still pursue medicine after taking a different path? The book was designed to encourage people who might not see themselves reflected in the traditional route and was published on Amazon.
